Woman with dog wearing Hector and George Coat

This Christmas, I Just Want to Share the Warmth

This Christmas, I Just Want to Share the Warmth

I don’t know whether it’s my age or the British weather (or both), but recently I’ve found myself craving the simple comforts in life — a quiet cup of tea before anyone else is awake, a warm kitchen on a frosty morning, and a coat that actually keeps out the cold when I’m walking the dog.

This December has felt especially nippy, and every time I step outside in my Hector & George coat — zipped up to the chin, soft fleece against my neck, absolutely windproof — I keep thinking the same thing:

“I wish the people I care about had one of these.”

The coat that changed my winter

I bought my first Hector & George coat back in the spring, after being caught in one too many sideways showers with our Labrador, Hector. What surprised me most wasn’t just how warm it was — although the fleece genuinely feels like wearing a duvet — but how reliable it’s been.

Morning dog walks.
Nipping out to the car.
Watching the school rugby on a cold Saturday.
Waiting for my daughter at the stables.
Standing on a windy beach in Devon in November.

It’s become the thing I reach for without thinking.

And now I want my closest people to feel this comfort too

Christmas isn’t really about grand gestures anymore, at least not for me.
It’s about thoughtfulness.
Usefulness.
And giving something that genuinely makes someone’s day a little better.

My sister is always freezing on her dog walks — she pretends she isn’t, but you can see it in her shoulders. I’ve made up my mind to surprise her with the Forest Green coat.

My daughter, who is forever borrowing mine, is getting the Daisy Pink. She’ll squeal when she sees the fleece lining.

And my friend Jo, who braves the wild swimming in January with that “mad but admirable” determination — she’s getting Ocean Blue, because she needs something warm to throw over her costume the moment she gets out of the water.

I know each of them will open the box, feel the weight of the fleece, slip their arms inside and think:
“Oh… this is lovely.”

And honestly, that’s all I want this Christmas.

Warmth is underrated — until you don’t have it

There’s something very comforting about being properly wrapped up.
Not just dry.
Not just passably warm.
But cosy.

Protected.
Spoiled, almost.

We spend so much time outside — dog walking, errands, school runs, horses, beaches, rugby touchlines — and most coats simply don’t live up to the job.

This one does.
Which is why I’m gifting it onwards.

If you want to share the warmth too…

There’s still time to order before Christmas.
And if you have someone in your life who:

  • walks a dog every day,

  • spends winter mornings at the stables,

  • shivers on the touchline,

  • loves wild adventures,

  • or simply deserves a treat…

…this is the sort of gift they’ll use endlessly.

I know — because I do.
