Made for the British outdoors

Hector & George started because I wanted a better coat.

I'm Alex, the person behind Hector & George. I live in the Somerset countryside, where walking the dog, horses, muddy fields and unpredictable weather are all part of everyday life.

I wanted a coat that I could throw on and simply get on with things in — something properly waterproof, warm without being cumbersome, long enough to keep more than just my top half dry, and smart enough that I didn't feel as though I was wearing expedition equipment every time I went out.

That became the Hector & George long waterproof, fleece-lined coat.

So, who are Hector & George?

Hector is my black Labrador and George is a duck.

They're an unlikely partnership, perhaps, but they seemed the perfect namesakes for a British outdoor brand. You'll find them together in our logo — Hector and George playing a rather improbable game of polo.

There's a bit of humour in the brand because I think there should be. Getting outside is supposed to be enjoyable, even when the British weather has other ideas.

Designed for real life

Our coats aren't intended for one particular type of person.

They're worn by dog walkers heading out first thing in the morning, riders and people working around the stables, parents standing on touchlines, cold-water swimmers warming up afterwards, and people who simply enjoy being outside.

The common denominator is British weather.

Rain, wind, mud and cold are part of life here. Rather than waiting for perfect conditions, we'd rather have the right coat and get on with it.

A small independent British business

Hector & George isn't a huge clothing company.

When you contact us, you're dealing with a small independent business where customer service still matters personally. I read the reviews, pack the orders and hear directly from customers about what they like — and occasionally what we could do better.

If a coat isn't right for you, that's fine too. We offer free, no-quibble returns because buying clothing online should never feel like a gamble.
